The Mountain Midwife

I have to admit, I haven't read many books on midwives so I wasn't sure what to expect. With that in mind let me say this book is a must read! It has you hooked from the first word and doesn't let you go to the very end.  What would you do if everything you knew or thought you knew about yourself turned out to be a lie? This is the question Hunter McDermott is faced with after returning home from business. On his business trip he manages to save a family from a car bomb thus putting his life under a microscope.  It's no surprise that everyone wants a piece of Hunter.  What'a so surprising is the voicemail he receives saying this lady is his birth mom and he needs to come save a sister he doesn't even know.

As Hunter goes on this journey to find himself and the truth, he meets midwife Ashley Tolliver.  She's not what he's expecting. For one she's decades younger than he thought she'd be and smart as a whip too.  He feels desperate to find out the truth of who he is and where he comes from so he reaches out to her to help.

This book has it all. Intrigue, twists, turns, romance and even family drama. It's not too heavy on any of these elements that it overshadows the heart of the story.  My friend and I, who have different tastes in books, both ended up with this book and were reading it at the same time. It was a race to see who finished first.  We ate through breakfast and lunch and even stayed up to the wee morning hours trying to finish.  The book is that good! Go grab a cup of hot tea ( or your favorite beverage) and snuggle in with this wonderful book.  I look forward to reading other books by Laurie Alice Eakes.
